Barnes Home Cottage
(Private property ~ not open to public.)
In 1856, a fugitive slave arrived at the home of Erastus Barnes carrying with him a letter from J.D. Hunt of Forest County which asked Barnes to provide aid and harbor to the escaping slave before sending him onward toward Canada. Barnes, a County Commissioner at the time, provided safe harbor, and preserved the letter which is today part of the collection of the Warren County Historical Society.
